The Ghuwaib Valley area within the Ajja Mountains west of Hail stretches for over 40 kilometers and is one of the most picturesque tourist areas in Hail. However, its pristine nature makes it a prime destination, especially after rainfall. Raila Mountain
Al-Raila is a black volcanic mountain interspersed with springs and palm valleys. Mount Al-Raila is located in the north-eastern corner of Aja and can be seen from the Hail-Jabba road at 30 km and is located south of Al-Safin village.
The mountaintop is currently occupied, and has been for about two decades, by a military air base.
The humming pebble
The “Hassa Al-Danah” rock formation is located in the Ghuwaib Valley amidst the Ajja Mountains. It consists of three granite rocks: one serving as a base, with two smaller and larger rocks positioned atop it. When the large rock is struck, it produces a sound resembling that of striking metal, and numerous stones can be found around it from visitors.
The French orientalist Charles Huber wrote about it when he passed by in 1879, saying: “We passed near a conical-shaped mass of granite measuring five cubic meters. As it fell from above, it landed upright on another rock, touching it only at three points. The rock is hollowed from below and rings like a very thick bell when struck with a stone or stick. This rock is called Al-Danah, and as usual, the metallic resonance suggests, according to Arab belief, that this mass covers treasures.” This phenomenon is a natural occurrence repeated in granite rocks.
